finally got round to checking out a few bbses. they're pretty cool, it's nice seeing what the internet was like before i spawned. granted, most of the ones i found were created after the 2000's. i've been hanging around on dawn chaotic mainly. there's a documentary series on youtube that talks about the history of them and how to access a few that i reccomend checking out if you're interested in seeing what the wired was like back in the late 80's/early 90's. they have the same cozy little feeling as a discord server with the appeal of using a terminal to access them that makes my little monke brain go brr.
